Metallic epoxy uses mica and metalite pigments suspended in an epoxy base. During installation, the pigment is manipulated with squeegee and air techniques. The result is a three-dimensional depth effect — flowing, shifting, unique to each pour. No two floors look identical because the pigment never moves the same way twice.
How metallic epoxy is installed
Installation follows the same diamond-grind prep as any epoxy system. The difference is in the coating layers. A solid base coat (typically black or white for contrast) goes down first. Then the metallic coat — mixed epoxy with metalite pigment — is poured and manipulated by the installer using squeeze techniques, notched trowel, and controlled air movement. This is time-sensitive work; the installer has a 20–40 minute working window before the epoxy begins to lock. Two full-coverage coats of UV-stable aliphatic polyaspartic topcoat cap the system.
Where metallic epoxy works best
Showroom garages are the primary market in the East Valley. A collector-car garage, motorcycle display space, or high-end workshop in Power Ranch or Ocotillo is an ideal application. Commercial retail entryways and restaurant floors are strong candidates. We also install metallic epoxy in residential specialty rooms — wine rooms, home theaters, home gyms — as an alternative to tile with no grout lines.
Color combinations for Arizona homes
Popular combinations in the East Valley: Desert Sunset (copper + amber + black base) reads warm and industrial, popular in Chandler and Gilbert custom homes. Slate Storm (charcoal + silver + blue) reads as brushed metal, common in tech-adjacent neighborhoods. Copper Canyon (red copper + gold accent + black) has maximum visual impact for showroom installations. Arctic Silver (white base + pure silver) amplifies light in studio and retail settings. We bring physical color samples to every estimate — photos don't capture the depth effect accurately.
Maintenance
A soft dust mop weekly removes grit before it scratches the topcoat. Monthly damp mop with pH-neutral cleaner. No citrus or vinegar-based cleaners (acidic — dulls the topcoat over time). No steam mops. A topcoat refresh at the 8–10 year mark restores the gloss without stripping the metallic layer.
Typical pricing
Includes diamond grinding, basic crack repair, moisture testing, full system installation. Additional prep quoted after slab assessment.
